Through collaborative leadership we supplied a pipeline of $812 million in new capital investment projects to strengthen and diversify the assets in Iowa. But beyond big number private-sector prospects we also work with the progressive small businesses, nonprofits, civic leaders, workforce, education institutions, utilities, transportation, housing, etc to maximize productivity and long-term prosperity in our evolving economic landscape.

Tourism Update: We [heart] Tama County campaign kick-off

The April meeting at Pilgrim Heights Camp & Retreat Center focused on facts related to the proposed Tama County Casino project and how its actualization would impact the travel and leisure landscape. Increased responsibility and need for additional resources in destination and overnight marketing in the event of two casinos were circled. Additional next generation marketing in 2010 was also explored.

  1. Tear off Maps: Successfully completed printing of 5,000 units within budget. 110 front line partners have been identified to connect to the reported 1.5M visits to Tama County, and increase awareness of unique and authentic attractions off the beaten path. “We [heart] Tama County” decals promoting places with maps should be available at the next meeting for distribution. Thank you to Tama County Community Foundation for helping fund phase I.
  2. Tama County Casino: reviewed video segments from the developer’s presentation to the Racing and Gaming Commission. Also solutions outlined by other proposed casino developers were discussed.
  3. Murder Mystery Dinner: Discussion centered on the creative aspect to make this event an authentic experience given Tama County’s unique history and landscape. Goal: have creative committee set up and meet before next Tourism meeting.
  4. Cinema Ads: identified one of the core projects for this year to promote family fun nature recreation as a healthy, quality of life local recreation in the movie theaters of Tama County. Looking to integrate next generation technology in evaluating and enriching the project. Goal: starter samples to review at next meeting.
  5. Tama County Traveler Pocket Guide: The theme for the 2011 – 2012 has been identified. Goal: Over the next few months the group will be identifying a dozen diverse families who moved (back) to Tama County, willing to share their stories for the publication.

Jammie Howard from the Tri-County Snowmobile Association and Dhramendra Patel from Super 8 Motel are expected to be new guests with agenda items. The Bank Club Marketplace Exhibit is also a new item. Other items include progress on projects identified above.
