Through collaborative leadership we supplied a pipeline of $812 million in new capital investment projects to strengthen and diversify the assets in Iowa. But beyond big number private-sector prospects we also work with the progressive small businesses, nonprofits, civic leaders, workforce, education institutions, utilities, transportation, housing, etc to maximize productivity and long-term prosperity in our evolving economic landscape.

Wellness Update: Tama County is taking on the 100 day challenge! Are you in?

One would think that living in a rural county in the land of milk and honey with the most fertile soil in the world should automatically translate into healthy lifestyles, right? After all, Tama County, Iowa has five farmers markets selling locally grown fresh fruits and veggies (most months of the year), award winning natural and organic meat producers, Mom and Pop dining establishments who pride themselves on food made from scratch without preservatives. Similarly we have an outdoor activities for every season, fresh and clean air and safe neighborhoods.

Alas, Iowa Public Health reports that in spite of being immersed in all these great healthy lifestyle resources, Tama County, Iowa is not one of the most healthy counties around. The reason Tama County Economic Development cares about wellness is because health lifestyles help us maximize our workforce’s ability to make productive contributions. Not only at work, but also at home and in the community.

Over the past few months local community and education leaders have formed the Tama County Wellness Coalition to increase wellness and to make it easier for individuals to make healthy choices and provide a support network for each other. One of the first undertakings of this group will be tackling the Live Healthy Iowa 100 Day Challenge. Last year 99 Tama County residents partook and about 1 out of 3 successfully completed the challenge. This year leaders at Tama County’s retirement communities, schools, and businesses have said they can beat that number. We would love for you and/or your business to be a part of this movement too.
