Economic Development is . . . (increasing the flow) of capital through the community and reducing its leakage.

Tama Benton Cooperative

Rebuilding efforts are underway at all three locations of the Tama Benton Coop after the July 11 windstorm.   In Vinton, the north receiving dump has been upsized and rebuilt and the four storage bins will be all replaced and/or repaired.  The south receiving pit will get a new, larger structure covering it, allowing for safer dumping and loading.  In Dysart, the new Zimmerman Grain Dryer is in place and the final clean-up of the west elevator is being completed.  The dry fertilizer building at the new Agronomy Center at the northwest corner of Dysart is going up.  A new 14 ft. x 80 ft. scale should be completed soon.  In Clutier, most of the concrete work is completed on the receiving pit and building and the bin foundations are ready for the erection crews to proceed.  The dryer is being set and the leg tower has been started.  After the utility work is complete, all the power and gas lines will be new, bigger, and underground.

The Tama Benton Coop will be at local events this summer to celebrate its 100 year anniversary.  On Saturday July 28, they are co-sponsoring the Annual Dysart Old Iron Day Tractor Cruise.  At 7:00 p.m. they will be having a “barn dance” at the new fertilizer building at the new Dysart Agronomy site.  On Saturday August 4, they will host an open house during the Clutier Bohemian Plum Festival from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  On Saturday August 25 they will host an open house during Vinton’s Boomtown Celebration from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
